GO has recently completed a new newsletter for global packaging giant Smurfit Kappa.

The clever folk at Smurfit Kappa are renowned for creating award winning packaging and Point of Sale for the likes of Walkers Crisps and Pizza Hut and our brief was to design a newsletter which would stand out from the crowd when it hit the desk of potential new customers.

Closely following Smurfit Kappa’s brand guidelines, we created a vibrant newsletter which had lots of energy while still maintaining a corporate look and feel. We also managed the print and fulfilment which saw the newsletter distributed to a 2000+ database and 40,000+ copies inserted into The Grocer magazine.

We have recently completed a new school logo for The Catholic High School, Chester. The High School is a specialist science college and wanted a modern logo to represent the forthcoming developments within the school.

We attended a student focus group and after taking all their ideas on board we put together a range of logo ideas. The chosen idea was then taken to completion.

From the student feedback, we felt they wanted a vibrant school logo, which would give them a real identity in the community. The cross was seen as an important symbol of the school, together with the school moto “Christo Fidelis”. We produced a modern interpretation of the cross to work with the specialist science college status. Green was an important colour of the school and we revised the colour palette to work alongside the existing uniform.

The re-brand also picked up coverage in business press on How Do and 53 Degrees. The logo followed a brief for a fresh, modern outlook to a growing company. We wanted the logo to match Robert’s friendly, enthusiastic nature as well as touching on the strong enviromental consultancy work the company will be pushing in the coming months. Robert Whetham Associates work with business in both the public and private sector including police, fire brigade, hospitals and schools.

These are the findings of recent research compiled by software firm Serif. They found that more than half of small companies design their own logo and stationery using free design software or Microsoft publishing programs.

Serif’s survey found that 56% of small companies design some (if not all) of their marketing materials themselves rather than use a professional design agency. Yet despite this 28% confessed they didn’t have the neccesary graphic design skills and over half felt that their current marketing was adversely affecting the business.
